Tumbled and weathered by the waves for years, sea glass comes to be as bottles and glass that find their way into the oceans are worn down into colourful jewels and then scattered across the shoreline for treasure hunters. You could say it’s glass that’s been recycled by the waves.
Sea glass collecting is a much-loved pastime of many local youngsters (and adults alike) so we’ve pulled together some of the best hunting grounds you might not have tried yet.

Castle Cornet
There’s plenty of treasure alongside Castle Cornet and you can watch the boats come and go as you hunt. Head along Castle Emplacement and go down the steps to the left as you walk towards the castle, the bay is just behind the Yacht Club.

Havelet Bay
Make your way down to the South Esplanade at low tide at you can scour Havelet Bay for sea glass. The beach is normally pretty affluent but particularly near the southern slipway by Octopus Bar & Beach Restaurant.

Spur Point
A little-known gem just off the Bridge, this pebble beach overlooks Herm and Sark so delivers a cracking view too! Park on Bulwer Avenue, walk north and take the path that goes around the headland. Carry on along this secluded path and you’ll come out on the beach. Not always the most fruitful spot but there is sea glass to be found and it’s a lovely little spot to hang out for a while.

Le Picquerel
On the northwest coast lies an underrated little beach in Grande Havre Bay. You can park by L’Islet Common and make your way down on to the rocky part of Le Picquerel where searching can commence. You want to search the patches in between the rocks – there’s not loads but it’s worth hunting for!

Pezeries Point
Park at Portelet Harbour and walk along as though you’re heading to the Fairy Ring. As you reach the fort, there’s a slip to the right which takes you down to a pebbly beach and hopefully towards lots of treasure. We’ve also spotted seals in the water down here so keep your eyes peeled on the sea too.

Fisherman’s Beach
As a bonus, if you’re lucky enough to be in Herm and fancy a little hunting, a great spot for sea glass is Fisherman’s Beach on the west coast.
Other places worth mentioning include Les Petils Bay, La Banque Imbert, Belle Greve Bay, Portelet Harbour and Baie de Port Gras. Down by the bathing pools can also be a lucrative spot too.
