Ahoy there, me hearties! Friday is Talk like a Pirate Day, and our shores are the perfect place to let little ones live out their swashbuckling dreams. Whether you’ve got mini buccaneers, fearless captains, or treasure-hunting teens, here’s our favourite pirate-inspired adventures to try as a family.
1. Speak like a pirate all day
It wouldn’t be Talk Like a Pirate Day without a bit of swashbuckling lingo. You could challenge the kids to swap “please” for “arr!” and “thank you” for “yo-ho-ho!” Don’t forget that this is your chance to bellow “walk the plank” when it’s time for bath or bedtime too. And there’s no point speaking like a pirate and not dressing like one – swing by Craftwise to raid their fancy dress section and pick out some pirate-themed crafts while you’re there.
2. Bury your own treasure
Grab your booty (think chocolate coins, costume jewellery, or even a bag of shells) and sneak off to your favourite beach. Hide your treasure beneath the sand, mark the spot with an X, and let your little pirates dig for gold. You could even draw a treasure map at home and bring it with you for added fun. Head to Sprinkle of Magic where you can pick up trinkets to bury or any much-needed buckets and spades for the beach. Just please ensure you leave nothing behind but footprints!
3. Hunt for real treasure
If hiding your own loot isn’t your style, search for Guernsey’s natural gems instead. Sea glass, pretty pebbles, and driftwood all make perfect pirate treasure. 4. Set sail on the high seas

5. Head to Pirate Bay
Once the digging, shouting, and treasure-hunting is done, round off your pirate day with a game of Pirate Bay Adventure Golf at Golf19. With its fun, pirate-themed course, it’s the perfect spot to test your putting skills while still in full buccaneer mode. Just remember: losers scrub the deck!
