During Foster Care Fortnight™, the Family Placement Service is highlighting the importance of foster care in the Bailiwick to encourage the community to consider opening their homes to provide care and stability to a child or young person in need.

The Family Placement Service will be holding the following drop-in sessions for anyone wanting to know more:

Beau Sejour Leisure Centre – Wednesday 14 May 3pm-7pm
Garenne Stand, Footes Lane – Saturday 17 May 4pm-7.30pm
Town, Market Square – Friday 23 May 12pm-2pm
Les Amarreurs Beach – Saturday 24 May 2pm-5pm

The Fostering Network is running its Foster Care Fortnight™ from 12-25 May – an annual national campaign to raise awareness of the incredible impact of foster care, and to inspire more people to consider becoming foster carers.

This year’s theme is ‘The Power of Relationships’, because at the heart of every fostering journey are the meaningful connections that make all the difference and help transform lives. Throughout the fortnight, voices from across the fostering community will be sharing stories of the powerful relationships that make a difference every day – from the bond between a foster carer and a child, to the vital support of social workers, friendships within the fostering community or the connections with birth families. These relationships shape lives, create stability and open new possibilities for the future.

Senior Supervising Social Worker Vicki Tennant, said “this year’s theme gives us a great opportunity to share stories of the different relationships that are so important within fostering. We will be sharing these moments on our Facebook page (Guernsey Foster Care and Adoption) throughout Foster Care Fortnight and we hope they inspire people to find out more about fostering.”
